Yay internet! Don't you think the internet is really really great?
I have to say, I don't miss those long commuting hours. Although they had the advantage of putting all other time losses in perspective. Now I'm like, "Going allll the way to (insert small japanese town name)? But that's like 40 minutes away!!"
Mind you, I've replaced my time spent in trains by time spent cooking. I'm not sure which is cheapest, but I certainly know which tastes better!

Modem received. Tuesday people will be by to throw a switch somewhere. I'll soon be back among the land of the connected. The post is written, the pictures sorted. Won't be long now.

That's in 1/3 of the time it took the tokyo company to call me back. Impressive.

I even handled most of the phonecall myself. She switched out of "telephone Japanese" by herself when I was hackling through my greeting and it wasn't untill she started explaining the techinal installation to me that I had to hand the phone to someone else. (Yeeh, nice bosses!)
'Course, the modem came with a diagram . . . . and I have a brain, 1 modem + 1 splitter + 3 cables. It's not exactly rocket science, but it was nice of them to tell me by phone anyway.

@ ivor: How do you fill your time? And what is the socially acceptable way to explain to someone you've never met before that they should really do something about that smell.
At least I cut out the busride from dorm => station now that I have a bike. I get to work a lot more awake now

I'll write a real description of my first impressions here later . . .Like, when I have internet at home and don't have to do it from the office.

But this は　ちょっと:

The more details I learn about my Internship theme, and the more I study the theory surrounding it the more mortified I get. There were 2 courses in my 2nd year which I consistantly failed untill they were removed from the curriculum.
The device I'll be working on my be built from things that fall in my speciality, but it's workings are governed by those 2 subjects.
So, I read the subject matter and try to make up for my shortcomings, and then today I get a book written by the guy who graded those failed examinations in one of those courses. . . .Fun!

Why are you all posting here?

Don`t　you know I don`t have internet. How can I read this. . . sms me or smthg.

Well, they set me up with a computer at work and it has internet. So I can keep in touch.
I am currently enjoying my standard lunchbox while reading the Company Confidentiality statement.

I`d fogotten to mention this earlier but there will be less posts from now on because . . .well, I`m not allowed to talk about my work (That includes you mum). I can only tell funny stories about work if it doesn`t contain any reference to what I`m doing here. . . . though I suppose it should be of an academic level most of you shouldn`t understand (It would be nice to see all those years of University counting for something) Though at least I can tell you that the things they want me to research will be in line with what I believe in. Or, at least as far as I can judge from what my coordinator says.

Oh, my futon is long enough. And the one blanket is too . . . .and more amizingly: The one blanket is enough. My heating system works properly(You have to have been in Japan to appreciate how rare that is here). Which is just as well because I won`t need the excuse to heat up women in there as they`re not allowed in the building . . . .:(

That leaves me with welcoming (yet another) member to our greater family.
