Party Report

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

This’ll be a short post, because while what I’ll be writing about was absolutely wicked . . . . A picture says more than a thousand words.

Of course, I have no pictures. It’s the habit of some people to take a small digital camera / solid phone with flash with em to parties to produce the result I’ve been searching for. I have neither of these, and the people who do have failed to post them. So I am left to describe things.

And I just won’t want to do that coz . . . . I ain’t that good of a writer, it won’t be able to capture the atmosphere or do any justice to the costumes.

Ok, I won’t leave you hanging quite as bad as that. It was a “pirate” theme party. Guaranteed for some nice cleavage, good hookage and it’ll certainly be pegged as a contender in the “good-party-list”. Puns, heheh. As the room filled with little Johnny Depps I made an entrance in my own “pirate” costume. . . . . I was stopped by security for having the wrong theme. I wasn’t “piraty” enough, upon which I opened my lab coat and proceeded to explain that there was indeed nothing “piraty” about my merchandise. All those programs had been obtained through strictly legal means. No piracy in my line of business, no sirry.

Thanks Cindy, for coming up with that hook.

My costume consisted of a Lab coat, CDs sewn on the insides representing different programs. A mouse, an aerial (for WiFi), a Microphone (for taking orders) and my PDA. I was a “Software Pirate”. The only costumed person in the room with no eyepatch, so to speak. The costume was later slightly altered with a red ribbon as the aerial was threatening to poke someone’s eye out. And while I argued that this would increase authenticity . . . . . the ribbon was added anyway.

Sjors and Kim also showed up in costume, of which I also don’t have pictures :( and I partied till 3:30 with them, Jeroen, Cindy, Marnix, Robin, Richard and many, many others. Retiring a mere 4 hours before I had to leave my cozy bed for another hard day’s work.

Another party I said I’d cover was the Lustrum party of the TU. This happened some time ago so I’ll give a rough guide.

I missed Ilse de Lange just barely. She was still performing while I changed from work, got in, bought my drink-tickets. But when I got to the stage I had just missed her last song. Instead, I got to see some other nice acts which don’t deserve any special mention, an african interpretive dance group which is worth mentioning, but none of you can pronounce anyway. And then there was Kraak en Smaak, a funk band which was absolutely wicked. After work the next day I immediately downloaded some of their work and I tell you man: Go see them live . . . . . coz they suck in a studio

Now, a festival isn’t all about the music. It’s also about having fun with your friends . . . or at the expense of your friends.

Jen and Lieuwe finally hooked up . . . . wait, let me say that FINALLY bit again. Geez, one of you two make the first move already . . . So we got to poke some fun at them. Congrats, though. Really.

Pretty much all half the students at the TU were there, so I met lots of old friends and had fun with them, or at their expense (Really Jon, NOT MY FAULT).

Of course, I got to make some new friends, and meet up with some people who I’d only met recently. I ran across the Lesbian errr. . . . bi who threw me a rather dirty look and refused to talk to me. I take it she was linked the blog :D

Ah, good times, good times. And as representative of my sportsclub, I got to drink for free, enter for free and BBQ for free (though I missed that one rather liberally, work éh)

Then there was the trip to Drievliet. Geez, lots of fun and partys, maybe I should write more often. And closer to the actual events so I can fully relate the atmosphere and I still think the things I post are funny because retrospect hasn’t set in yet.

It was wet, cold and miserable. Luckily, it only turned that bad when we’d been in all the rides :D

They have a new ride which was quite good. Though technical problems still plague the thing. As I’d never been to this park before I got to enjoy all the rides, not just the new one.

The short of it was that I got to spend a day at an amusement park with my arm around my girl. I had a lovely time, in the park, and warming up under the blankets at home afterwards. I don’t keep track of what I liked best, but I know that despite her assurances that she was too old to for clowns, Mayke smiled the widest watching a clown and a 4-year old on stage.

On a different note: I get to go to Brussels tomorrow on the Pre-Departure-Meeting. Things starting to move fast now :D . And MAN does the japanese language suck.

P.S. I need to work on my definition of a “short post”

Intermission

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

This japan thing is great.

Now, I know I haven’t left the continent yet. And I don’t speak a word of japanese over the naughty words I’d been taught in Australia. But I mean, the whole build-up so far has been great. It’s fantastic to think about it, to talk about it. Hell, it’s not even half as annoying/tiring to prepare the things needed for it as they could be.

But

Now, you knew there was a “but” coming, didn’t you.

Going to japan for a year kind of interrupts all the things you normally line up for processing.

This is a fairly vague statement, so let me elaborate. Normally, a life is made up of different things. Your every day things, your short term things, and long term things. Within each of these categories there are subsections. These can be prioratised. A person has several things of each category running at any time: You’re working, making a shopping list, thinking about the footy season all the while saving up money for that holiday you’ve planned somewhere coming summer. 2 everyday things, 1 short term and a long term thing at the same time. And that’s not including that diet you’re taking, the website you’re building, the education you’re doing, guitar lessons you’re taking, having to buy a b-day present, having to go to the loo etc etc etc.

I’ve had to put most everything long term on hold. I can’t start new school projects coz I’ll be out of the country, busy with this exchange before I can finish them. I’ll be leaving my guitar here when I move, so no more working on that. Meeting people and making new friends . . . . why? 2 months from now on I won’t see em for a year.

I’m basically filling my life with short term/every day life shit. My life is on intermission, one big waiting room. I’m waiting for visa information, paperwork and my flight. The rest seems to be just filler.

So, here I am, and I know I should be psyched. And I am. But at the same time I can’t help but feel I’m wasting my life away till this thing really starts.

Now, this would be normal anxiety had it not been for another contributing factor: I have a girlfriend, and this thing has put additional strain on our relationship. It’s not fair to her. Honey, I’m really sorry. I’m sorry that I’m going away and I’m sorry that you’re not gotting a fair chance.

Now, that’s quite enough of morose feelings. Being the eternal optimist that I am, I will will my life with short term/every day fun shit. Sooooooo . . . more posts one those things soon I hope.

On that note: Drievliet tomorrow. Apperantly, the new rides are quite exciting. Meh, it’s just around the corner and cheap, so worth checking out.

On the whole “What have I accomplished recently thing”: I got the sublet thing taken care of and I’ve managed to get a reply on all my letters to things that needed taking care of. 2 out of 3 even understood what was being asked of them. Though Casema somehow took my letter titled (change contact person TV-subscription) and replied that to change my internet things I needed to send Michiel’s ID. Soooooo, even the third managed to convey useful information while not being able to read all at the same time.
